 In addition to Microsoft Outlook you can use Webmail to check your email from any computer with internet access.  Below are the basic instructions of how to use Citynets Webmail.

1.   Logging in to Citynets Webmail 

Open your web browser and go to webmail.citynets.com..       You will be presented with a page asking for your user name and password

                         

After entering your Citynets user name and password you will be presented with this screen.

                        

All of your messages that have not yet been moved into a folder are displayed in the right frame.  Any new messages are highlighted.  Each message displays who it is from, the date it was sent, and the subject of the email.  You can always return to the inbox by clicking the inbox link on the left part of the screen.

2.      Viewing a message

To view a message click you can click on the text under the Subject row.  You should see a window similar to this.

                        

On the second gray bar from the top you’ll see options to

  • delete the message

  • go to the next or previous message

  •  forward the message to another person  or reply to the original author

3.      Composing a new message

On the top of the right frame you should see a link that says compose.  After following the link you should be presented with this page.

                        

Below is a brief description of the basic fields.

  • To: - This is the email address of the person you want to send your email to.

  • CC: - This stands for Carbon Copy.  Enter an additional email address here if you would like a copy sent to someone else.

  • BCC: - This stands for Blind Carbon Copy.  This allows you to send someone else a copy of your email, but not allow the recipients in the To or CC fields of your e-mail to know that the BCC recipient(s) was sent the message as well.

  • Subject: - This is the first thing the recipient of your email sees.  It should describe your email.

  • Body: - This is located in the large white box in the middle of the screen.  This is where you type the message you want to send.

  • Attach: - If you would like to add an attachment to your email you add it here.  First browse to the file on your computer.  Once you have it selected click add.

4.      Addresses

This is where you can store contacts.  You can get to this by clicking Addresses on the top of the right frame.  This page should look like this.

                        

Just enter a nickname for the person, their email address, their first and last name, and any additional information you want and click Add address.              

5.      Folders

This is where you can create a folder to help sort emails you’ve received.  You can get to this page by clicking Folders at the top of the right frame.  This page should look like this

                        

Just type in the name of the folder you want to create and click create. 

6.      Options

All of these changes start at the options page.  You can get there by clicking on Options on the top of the right frame.  It should look like this.

                   

6.1 Change alternating message color option.

  • Click on Display Preferences

  • Select No for Enable Alternating Row Colors

6.2 Setting full name

  • Click on Personal Information

  • Enter your Full Name in the text field

  • Click submit

6.3 Entering a signature

  • Click on Personal Information

  • Enter your Signature in the text field

  • Click submit

     7.          Mark email as spam

If you receive an unsolicited message from someone you don’t know you should mark it as spam to help prevent further messages.  To do this while viewing the message click the red link that says “Mark as SPAM”.

     8.     Fixing Microsoft Outlook through Webmail

       Sometimes an email message will cause Outlook to hang when the user tries to send and receive.  To fix this problem follow the steps above to log in through Webmail then check your oldest unread message.    This is the message that is causing outlook to hang and will need to be deleted to get Outlook working again.  To do this click the delete link near the top of the page under the compose link.  After it's deleted Outlook should be working again.
